Superior Court Releases Data on Jury Trial Verdicts in Medical Malpractice, Slip-and-Fall, and Auto Accident Cases for 2016
The Superior Court of the District of Columbia recently released compilations of data regarding jury trial verdicts in medical malpractice, slip-and-fall, and auto accident cases for 2016 (i.e., January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016). According to the compilations:
» There were six jury trial verdicts in medical malpractice cases during 2016, one of which was for the plaintiff. The plaintiff verdict was in a case involving serious permanency of injury, and was in the amount of $500,000. There was also at least one case that settled during trial. The defendant’s last known offer in that case was $2,100,000 and the plaintiff’s last known demand was $5,000,000.
» There were three slip-and-fall jury trial verdicts during 2016, one of which was for the plaintiff. The plaintiff verdict was in a case involving soft tissue injury and no permanency of injury, and was in the amount of $1,798.
» There were thirty-four jury trial verdicts in auto accident cases during 2016. Twenty of those verdicts were for the plaintiff. The highest verdict for a plaintiff was approximately $37,000, and was in a case involving soft tissue injury, verifiable back and neck injury, and permanency of injury.
