Superior Court Releases Data on Jury Trial Verdicts in Medical Malpractice, Slip-and-Fall, and Auto Accident Cases for 2014
The Superior Court of the District of Columbia recently released compilations of data regarding jury trial verdicts in medical malpractice, slip-and-fall, and auto accident cases for 2014 (i.e., January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2014). According to the compilations:
» There were eight jury trial verdicts in medical malpractice cases during 2014, three of which were for the plaintiff. The first plaintiff verdict was in a case involving misdiagnosis and serious permanency of injury, and was in the amount of $120,000. The second plaintiff verdict was in a case involving misdiagnosis, incompetent surgery, and serious permanency of injury, and was in the amount of $464,000 (approximately). The third plaintiff verdict was in a case involving non-serious permanency of injury, and was in the amount of $400,000.
» There were seven slip-and-fall jury trial verdicts during 2014, one of which was for the plaintiff. The plaintiff verdict was in a case involving soft tissue injury, verifiable back and neck injury, and permanency of injury, and was in the amount of $105,000.
» There were fifty-seven jury trial verdicts in auto accident cases during 2014. Thirty-five of those verdicts were for the plaintiff. The highest verdict for a plaintiff was $225,000, and was in a case involving verifiable back and neck injury and permanency of injury. The remaining plaintiff verdicts were all within the range of $0 to $100,000.
