Superior Court Releases Data on Jury Trial Verdicts in Medical Malpractice, Slip-and-Fall, and Auto Accident Cases for 2018

The Superior Court of the District of Columbia has released compilations of data regarding jury trial verdicts in medical malpractice, slip-and-fall, and auto accident cases for 2018 (i.e., January 1, 2018 through December 31, 2018). According to the compilations:

» There were five jury trial verdicts in medical malpractice cases during 2018, two of which were for the plaintiff. The largest plaintiff verdict was for $3,600,000, and was in a case involving birth complications and serious permanency of injury. The other plaintiff verdict was for approximately $1,250,000 and involved fatality.

» There were four jury trial verdicts in slip-and-fall cases during 2018, two of which were for the plaintiff. The plaintiff verdicts were for $65,000 and $60,000, and involved permanency of injury.

» There were thirty-two jury trial verdicts in auto accident cases during 2018. Seventeen of those verdicts were for the plaintiff. The two largest plaintiff verdicts were for approximately $4,320,000 and $1,500,000. Other notable plaintiff verdicts were for approximately $500,000, $200,000, $143,000, and $80,000. All of the other verdicts were for less than $40,000.
