Superior Court Releases Data on Jury Trial Verdicts in Medical Malpractice, Slip-and-Fall, and Auto Accident Cases for 2017
The Superior Court of the District of Columbia has released compilations of data regarding jury trial verdicts in medical malpractice, slip-and-fall, and auto accident cases for 2017 (i.e., January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017). According to the compilations:
» There were six jury trial verdicts in medical malpractice cases during 2017, four of which were for the plaintiff. The largest plaintiff verdict was for $8,350,000, and was in a case involving serious permanency of injury. Other notable plaintiff verdicts were for $494,250 and $8,000,000.
» There was one slip-and-fall jury trial verdict during 2017, which was for the defendant. The plaintiff’s last known demand was $175,000, and the defendant’s last known offer was $0.
» There were thirty-one jury trial verdicts in auto accident cases during 2017. Eighteen of those verdicts were for the plaintiff. The highest plaintiff verdict was for approximately $800,000, and was in a case involving permanency of injury. Other notable plaintiff verdicts were for approximately $219,000, $300,000, $582,000, and $588,000.
